Welcome to GeerCrest Farm,
Where Agrarian Culture is Lived & Taught
Our farm is nestled in the Waldo Hills area east of Salem, Oregon. The homestead was established in 1848 by pioneers Ralph and Mary Geer. The house they built in 1851 still stands and is home to their descendants and the people who work the farm.
Our mission is to live and teach agrarian culture. We are part of a network of small farms, which allows us to support local and urban communities with healthy, seasonal food. In turn, we are sustained by our customers who purchase our products, come to the farm to lend a hand and partake in a simpler way of life.
GeerCrest was also the childhood home of world-renowned political cartoonist Homer Davenport.
The farm is currently maintained by the fifth generation of the family who built it, and the site is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Agrarian Culture
Agrarian culture is a way of life which encourages people to rely on eachother and co-operate with nature to grow food for themselves and others. The principles and attitudes which reflect agrarian culture include:
· Leading a rhythmic life, shaped by the seasons and rhythms of the day.
· Embracing a life style which is adapted to what nature, farmers, community members and regional economic systems can produce.
· Appreciating that it is Nature that produces on the farm and that the farmer's role is a cooperative venture with the forces of the earth and the cosmos.
· Understanding that working our farm means building on what other generations have envisioned, experienced and brought to fruition.
· Doing what is needed, when it is needed.
· Supporting the collective endeavor by bringing individual aptitudes to the tasks at hand.
· Expressing gratitude for the bounty of the earth and the good will of our community. The Farm Life Experience programs at GeerCrest Farm bring renewed attention to these and other agrarian principles in our daily lives.
